Vishay Intertechnology has announced the launch of the AEC-Q102 certified, industry-leading linear optical coupler, the VOA300. The Vishay Semiconductors VOA300 has an insulation voltage of 5300 Vrms and a response speed five times that of competing devices, while typical transmission gain stability is improved to 0.005 %/C and a single-ended output provides design flexibility.
The automotive component consists of an AIGaAs infrared LED (IRLED) (feedback isolator light-emitting diode) and an output PIN photodiode, which are arranged in a bifurcated arrangement. The VOA300 feeds back the percentage of LED luminous flux captured by the photodiode, and generates control signals to adjust the drive current of the LED. The output PIN photodiode generates output signals linearly related to the LED servo luminous flux. The use of a PIN photodiode that is matched to accurately track the output light flux of the LED ensures the stability of the input-output coupling time and temperature.
The VOA300 single-ended output can be directly connected to an amplifier or an AD converter. Optocouplers are specifically used for current and voltage measurement of electric vehicle (EV) electrical isolation, including on-board chargers (OBCs), traction inverters, and DC/DC converters. The device provides reliable and fast data transmission at 1.4 MHz for these applications, and its fast response enables rapid detection of voltage and current fluctuations in battery circuit breakers (electronic fuses), protecting personnel and vehicles.
The typical input-output capacitance of linear optocoupler is only 1pF, the high gain linearity is up to 0.25%, and the power consumption is less than 15mW. In addition, the device operates at temperatures up to +125 °C, suitable for harsh industrial environments. The optocoupler complies with RoHS and Vishay green standards and is halogen-free.
