
Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. announced that its optoelectronics division has introduced a new fully integrated automotive-grade proximity and ambient light sensor with four different secondary address options - the VCNL4030X01. Using Filtron technology, the Vishay Semiconductors VCNL4030X01 combines a light detector for proximity and ambient light, a signal conditioning IC, a 16-bit ADC and a high-power IRED in a surfacing package size of just 4 mm x 2.36 mm x 0.75 mm. The AEC-Q101 certified sensor has interrupt capability and supports an I²C bus communication interface for mobile devices and smart home, industrial and automotive applications.
The device can be used for smart phones and tablets touch screen lock screen proximity sensing to save power; Monitor activation status detection for laptops, automotive, consumer electronics and industrial equipment; Monitor, keyboard and rearview mirror dimming control ambient light sensing; And collision prevention for toys and robots. All circuits needed for these applications are integrated in this small device, saving PCB space, while four slave address options provide greater design flexibility for applications requiring multiple sensors.
The device includes a programmable interrupt function to set high and low thresholds, reducing the total power consumption of the application. This feature can be programmed to trigger ambient light and proximity sensors. The sensor uses Filtron technology, the ambient light spectrum sensitivity is close to the human eye, and has excellent background light elimination ability. The VCNL4030X01 has a built-in ambient light diode with a detection range of 0.004 lx to 4.2 klx for applications designed with dark or highly transparent lenses.
Sensor accuracy up to ± 10%, not affected by fluorescent strobe, excellent temperature compensation in the range of -40 °C to +105 °C. The VCNL4030X01 proximity sensor uses intelligent cancellation technology to eliminate crosstalk, while the intelligent duration design enables the sensor to quickly and accurately respond when an object is detected. The high sensitivity of the device enables detection distances up to 300 mm. The transmitter wavelength peaked at 940 nm, with no visible "red tail".
