Vishay introduces new 2.5A IGBT and MOSFET drivers

     Vishay Intertechnology has announced the launch of a new 2.5A IGBT and MOSFET driver, VOD3120A, to expand its optoelectronics portfolio. The Vishay Semiconductors VOD3120A comes in DIP-8 and SMD-8 packages with a low voltage drop output current loss of only 3.5 mA, which can be used to improve inverter level efficiency.

     The recently released optocoupler uses CMOS technology and contains AIGaAs leds that are optically coupled with the integrated circuit and rail-to-rail output stage to provide the required drive voltage for the gating device. The VOD3120 voltage and current make it ideal for direct drive of 1200 V / 100 A rated IGBTs.

     The high isolation voltages of the device are VIORM = 891 V and VIOTM = 6000 V respectively, which can be used for current isolation of motor drivers, solar inverters, switching power supplies (SMPS), induction furnaces, and uninterruptible power supplies (UPS). In addition, its undervoltage lock (UVLO) function prevents IGBT/MOSFET failures, and its minimum 35 kV/μs common mode transient suppression helps eliminate noise issues in the high to low voltage region of the PCB.

     With a maximum propagation delay of 0.5 µs, the optocoupler is ideal for applications requiring fast switching. The device is RoHS compliant and operates at 15 V to 30 V supply voltages and industrial temperatures from -40 °C to +105 °C.
