Vishay Intertechnology today announced the introduction of a new high-precision position sensor that is more reliable than existing absolute encoders and offers better resolution and accuracy than the traditional Hall effect sensor, the RAMK060, for industrial robots and other demanding applications.

     Vishay Intertechnology today announced the introduction of a new high-precision position sensor that is more reliable than existing absolute encoders and offers better resolution and accuracy than the traditional Hall effect sensor, the RAMK060, for industrial robots and other demanding applications.

 

     The new RAMK060 Absolute Rotary Magnetic Suite encoder uses advanced contactless technology with accuracy greater than 13 bits, resolution up to 19 bits, repetition accuracy greater than 16 bits, and tolerance to external magnetic fields, humidity, atmospheric pollution, vibration, mechanical shock and temperature changes. The device has an electrical Angle of 360° and can operate in the temperature range from −40 °C to +85 °C, with a wider temperature range available according to customer requirements.

 

     The RAMK060 features a rotor-stator kit design, as well as an off-axis design (for hollow shaft assembly), a 6.5mm ultra-thin size and light weight (< 55 g), making it ideal for applications where the space is small but the angular position needs to be detected with high precision. RAMK060 has an outer diameter of 60 mm and an inner diameter of 25 mm. A variety of multi-turn models are available with connectors for connecting to backup power in the event of a system power failure. Output signal formats include SPI, SSI, or Biss-C.

 

     Vishay's patented designs are particularly suitable for applications that require precise and repetitive motion, such as arm joints for industrial robots and collaborative robots, steering wheels for self-guided vehicles, and machine tools for printing, textile manufacturing, and milling.
