Vishay introduces surface-mount automotive grade silicon PIN photodiodes

     Vishay Intertechnology has announced the introduction of a new surface mount automotion-grade silicon PIN photodiode with an external dimension of 0805 and a height of just 0.7 mm - 0.15 mm lower than the previous generation of devices. Vishay Semiconductors VEMD4010X01 and VEMD4110X01 come in a black package with opaque side walls to eliminate excess side light and improve signal-to-noise ratio.

     The photodiode is AEC-Q101 certified for light detection in a variety of applications, including sunlight load sensors, rain, daylight and tunnel sensors for vehicles, light curtains for elevators, garage doors, industrial equipment, and contactless faucets, toilets and garbage cans. The VEMD4010X01 is designed to detect visible and near-infrared radiation with a sensitivity range of 550 nm to 1040 nm. The VEMD4110X01 is intended for use in 740 nm to 1040 nm infrared applications with shading filters matching the 830 nm to 950 nm infrared emitters.

     The high-sensitivity device has a sensitive area of 0.42 mm2, reverse photocurrent of 2.4 µA, and dark current as low as 1 nA. The VEMD4010X01 and VEMD4110X01 have fast response speed, a semi-intensity Angle of ± 60°, an operating temperature of -40 °C to +110 °C, and a peak sensitivity wavelength of 910 nm. The photodiode is RoHS and Vishay green compliant, halogen-free, has a moisture sensitivity level (MSL) of J-STD-020 Level 3, and can be stored for 168 hours after opening the package.
