Vishay introduces the T55 series of polymer tantalum capacitors with a new ultra-thin form factor

     Vishay Intertechnology announced that it has expanded its T55 series of vPolyTan™ surface mount polymer tantalum molded chip capacitors with a new Z-shape (EIA 7343-19) size device. The T55 series Z dimension capacitors are now available for sample and volume production with a lead time of 12 to 14 weeks.

     Vishay Polytech capacitors are 0.1 mm lower in height than standard V form factor (EIA 7343-20) dimensional devices, which improves package density and can be used to design thinner finished products. This device is suitable for power management, battery decoupling and energy storage for computers, servers, network infrastructure devices, solid-state drives and wireless transceivers.

     The T55 series is available in compact J, P, A, B, T (low height B, up to 1.2mm), D, V, and Z, with a capacitance range of 3.3µF-680µF, rated voltage of 2.5V-63V, and capacitance tolerance of ±20%. Capacitors have an ultra-low ESR of 500m to 7mΩ at +25 °C, thanks to polymer cathodes that perform far better than devices using manganese dioxide materials. Devices with ESR values up to 1000 µF and down to 6 m are under development.

     The capacitor operates from -55 °C to +105 °C with an excellent ripple current rating of up to 5.66 A IRMS, and its low internal resistance improves charge and discharge characteristics. The T55 series capacitors are lead-free (Pb) terminated and comply with RoHS, halogen-free and Vishay green standards. The device can be mounted using high-speed automatic pickup equipment with a moisture sensitivity level (MSL) of 3.
