Vishay introduces ultra-small, high-reliability ESD protection diodes for in-vehicle Ethernet

     Vishay Intertechnology has announced the introduction of a new vehicle-scale bi-directional single-way ESD protection diode, VETH100A1DD1, in a compact package of the side pad DFN1006-2B for easy solder attachment. Designed for on-board Ethernet, this space-saving device complies with OPEN Alliance 100Base-T1 and 1000Base-T1 specifications and features low clamping voltage, dynamic resistance and capacitance to protect high-speed data lines from transient voltage signals.

     The recently released devices have a smaller footprint and height than other standard packaged devices. Due to snap-back technology with A trigger voltage of > 100 V, the clamping voltage at 1 A is extremely low, with a typical value of only 31 V. The typical dynamic resistance of this protection diode is as low as 0.4 W, which improves ESD pulse absorption and protection, and its maximum tolerance is only 2 pF, helping to improve signal integrity.

     The VETH100A1DD1 data cable transient protection reaches ± 15 kV (1000 x contact discharge) as specified by ISO 10605 and IEC 6100042. For automotive applications, the protective diode is available in AEC-Q101 certified device with an operating voltage of ± 24 V. End-use applications include industrial automation systems, computers, consumer entertainment devices, home appliances, fixed communications infrastructure, and medical instruments.

     The protection diode moisture sensitivity rating (MSL) reaches J-STD-020 standard Class 1, and the fire resistance rating reaches UL 94 V-0. The device complies with RoHS and Vishay green standards, is halogen-free and supports automated optical inspection (AOI) of automotive systems.
