XP Power introduces a programmable 3kW power supply family that brings digitally controlled, high-power products to medical and industrial applications

    XP Power introduces the new HPF3K0 family to provide intelligent, flexible, higher-power class power products for critical medical, industrial and semiconductor manufacturing applications. Advancements in cutting-edge surgical/medical devices require ever-increasing precision and power, and the HPF3K0 can address this. In addition, in the industrial sector, the HPF3K0 provides distributed control and monitoring through a highly configurable and remotely controllable power module.

     Until now, researchers have had few multi-kilowatt options in the medical field. The HPF3K0 delivers 3kW of power and is fully compliant with IEC60601-1 Ed.3 with 2 x MOPP(Patient Protection Protocol). The power solution is also certified for EMC Class B (conduction) and Class A (radiation) to EN55011/EN55032 and immunity to EN61000-4-x. ITE certification includes IEC62368-1 Ed.2.

     At the heart of the highly flexible solution is a digital signal processing "engine" that incorporates a sophisticated set of digital control and monitoring functions that allow for dynamic changes in power configuration and performance. This includes constant current operation, variable overload characteristics and alarm functions.

     As a result, users can optimize the power solution to suit a variety of applications without having to change the hardware /BoM. This includes the ability to adjust the current and/or voltage to 0% of the nominal rating - a rarity in this type of power supply. A complex graphical user interface (GUI) allows configuration development and evaluation.

     Multiple serial protocols including I2C, PMBus, RS485 and CANopen allow seamless integration with remote control schemes, while boot loader capabilities allow remote firmware updates for maintenance or enhancement.

     Industrial applications require robust solutions. The HPF3K0 has an auxiliary signal connector with positive locking and double fixed points on the output terminals. In addition, the rise and fall of the output voltage is strictly controlled to avoid the creation of a stagnant voltage on the output capacitor.

     The HPF3K0 is an enclosed steel substrate product measuring only 280 mm x 178 mm x 64 mm (11.0 "x 7.00" x 2.50 "). Up to five modules can operate in parallel via a single-wire bus, providing highly flexible power of up to 15kW.

     The product is available in four models with rated outputs of 24, 36, 48 and 60VDC. With an efficiency of up to 93%, cooling by an integrated fan with intelligent control ensures that audible noise is kept to the lowest possible level, a useful feature, especially in noise-sensitive medical applications.

     The HPF3K0's digital architecture, flexibility, scalability, high power density, Class B conducted radiation, ITE and medical safety certifications make it ideal for a wide range of healthcare, semiconductor manufacturing and industrial equipment applications.
