XP Power introduces the new 500W power supply for Class II applications

     XP Power has announced the availability of a new 500W AC-DC power supply with class II safety certification, including BF class insulation, for medical device applications requiring Class II (ungrounded) installation and excellent EMC performance.

     The PBL500 series delivers up to 500W of power when forced air cooling or with an integral fan, and 250W when cooled by natural convection. The series accepts a wide range of universal inputs from 80VAC to 264VAC in the 47Hz to 63Hz range and offers single output voltages from 12V to 57V. With the same family, system designers can cover many applications.

     The series is available in two designs. The U-housing version provides 250W of power for convection cooling and 450-500W for external forced air cooling. The top fan version includes a low-noise variable speed integrated cooling fan for a complete 450-500W solution.

     The product has a low patient leakage current, providing 2 x MOPP from input to housing, 2 x MOPP from input to output, and 1 x MOPP from output to floor. The input-to-housing and input-to-output insulation is rated at 4000VAC and the output to the floor at 1500VAC. The series complies with Class B standards for conduction and radiation, as well as IEC/ES/EN 60601-1 Version 3.1 and 60601-1-2 Version 4 safety standards.

     The PBL500 series includes a 5V backup power supply, overvoltage and overcurrent protection, remote sensing, and thermal shutdown. An "AC normal" signal and remote on/off control are also available. The U-case version also offers a 12V 0.3A output suitable for powering the system cooling fan.
