Xilinx's new Virtex UltraScale+ FPGA is available

     Xilinx, a global leader in adaptive and intelligent computing, announced the Virtex® UltraScale+™ VU23P FPGA, the latest member of the UltraScale+ FPGA product family optimized for networking and storage acceleration, combining multiple resources in a unique way. Delivers more efficient packet processing and scalable data bandwidth for breakthrough performance for networking and storage applications. At a time when exponential data growth is placing high demands on intelligent, flexible networking and data center solutions, the new VU23P FPGA provides the industry with the maximum throughput, powerful data processing capabilities, and flexibility needed to adapt to evolving connectivity standards and meet current and future needs.

     The VU23P has a number of outstanding features that enable the highest lookup table and embedded memory (block RAM) to DSP chip ratio in the Virtex UltraScale portfolio, enabling high throughput processing with constant size and power consumption. It comes in a 35mmx35mm compact package that delivers powerful computing power in a small size, making it ideal for high-density server environments such as SmartNIC. The device's 58G PAM4 transceiver supports up to 200G of SmartNIC and networking systems with the most advanced PCIe Gen 4 connectivity for maximum I/O bandwidth.      SmartNIC: By offloading processing to FPGA-based Smartnics, users can dramatically improve server performance, reduce system-level total cost of ownership (TCO), and enable rapid functional innovation.      NMVe-oF: NVMe over Fabrics, also known as NVME-OF or the Fibre Channel non-volatile memory standard, is a protocol specification designed to use the NVMe protocol to connect hosts to storage over a network architecture. The Virtex UltraScale+ VU23P delivers enhanced acceleration for multiple types of storage workloads, including data compression, data decompression, data deduplication, and sorter capabilities, while maximizing overall storage utilization and minimizing CPU load. With a small package and compatible PCIe Gen 4 capabilities, the new Virtex UltraScale+ FPGA delivers unmatched performance per unit area, enabling flexible deployment while reducing the total cost of ownership of the storage system.

     Converged access forwarding: In wired communications, the converged access forwarding gateway enables a single interface to carry all services without performance deterioration. The new VU23P FPGA gives different "personalities" to different devices, can be selected for each deployment in the network infrastructure, and supports several types of standards, including Ethernet front-end, OTN front-end, and PON front-end. In addition, the integrated PCIe Gen 4 IP also provides a way to virtualize baseband processing for existing radios.
