One or more TMD2636 sensors provide reliable proximity detection, allowing the earbuds to automatically power on when inserted and automatically power off when removed. This maximizes power savings when the earbuds are not in use, while providing a great user experience.
The TMD2636 sensor module integrates a 940nm infrared (IR) vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL), near-infrared photodetector, and complex control circuitry in a 2.0mm x 1.0mm x 0.35mm transparent fill package. The average power consumption of this sensor is 70µA in active mode and 0.7µA in sleep mode. The energy-saving benefits of the TMD2636 module are critical, especially for wireless earbuds with small battery capacity and size.
The TMD2636 is based on several innovative ams technologies, including photodetector technology, optical package design, and factory testing and calibration. The TMD2636 is designed to provide excellent crosstalk rejection, high ambient light immunity and a highly efficient algorithm that provides accurate proximity detection results. In addition, TMD2636 can integrate two TMD2636s on the same I2C bus through the patented digital I2C interface, which simplifies the difficulty of dual-device system design.
